The Funeral:

  • Helps confirm the reality and finality of death.
  • Provides a climate for mourning and the expression of grief.
  • Allows the sorrows of one to become the sorrows of many.
  • Is one of the few times love is given and not expected in return.
  • Is a vehicle for the community to pay its respects.
  • Encourages the affirmation of religious faith.
  • Is a declaration that a life has been lived as well as a sociological statement that a death has occurred.

A funeral service usually includes:

  • Professional services
  • Transportation services
  • Embalming and other preparations
  • Facilities for visitation
  • The funeral ceremony
  • Personalized memorial folders, register book and acknowledgment cards
  • Merchandise of choice (casket and vault)

Embalming and preparation of the body is one of the many services the funeral director performs. Embalming involves introducing a preservative and disinfectant into the body. Embalming sanitizes the body and restores a more natural appearance, reducing visible signs of disease or injury. Today, embalming is routinely performed in the United States, Canada and in many other countries, but is not an absolute requirement.

Embalming may be required in certain situations. If the deceased is to be directly buried or cremated, embalming is not usually required.  Yoder-Culp Funeral Home can care for the deceased until burial or cremation takes place. In Indiana, cremation cannot occur until 48 hours after the death. Should a family choose a funeral which includes public viewing, embalming is necessary.

No, we believe funeral planning and purchase is a smart decision for anyone. Younger people often carry ordinary life and health insurance to protect their families in the event something happens, and that is wise. It is equally wise for them to take the next steps to arrange and fund their own funerals. By doing so, they relieve their loved ones of emotional and financial burdens, andthey can enjoy the peace of mind that comes with having all their affairs in order.
